Ten new houses for Mineral Resources’ (MinRes) permanent residential workforce in Onslow have progressed, as part of MinRes’ commitment to invest in the Pilbara region’s local community.
This progress has been marked by the first house being delivered to Onslow’s Barrada Estate in August after being transported 1400km on the road from Perth.
To make room for the ten homes, MinRes purchased ten lots spanning at least 600 square metres each at Barrada Estate. Each home will feature four bedrooms, two bathrooms, an outdoor kitchen, a swimming pool, a boat storage area and a waterwise garden.
“Onslow is a wonderful place to live and we want to encourage our people to call the town home and become active members of this thriving community,” MinRes Onslow project director Darren Hardy said.
“The investment in these high-quality homes is part of our meaningful commitment to deliver long-term benefits and economic opportunities for Onslow.”
The homes are being manufactured in Perth by Modular WA, and local businesses are working on the homes’ facilities such as power, carpentry, and plumbing.
The remaining nine houses are expected to be delivered over the next three months, and it is expected for the homes to be occupied by MinRes employees working at the Onslow project by the end of 2023.
The Onslow project is located 150 kilometres east of Onslow. It is expected to ship around 35 million tonnes of iron ore per year and is set to be one of WA’s largest iron ore operations.
Essential marine cargo for the project arrived at the Port of Ashburton in mid August.
